#alien adventures: not to be missed – Deborah Bell at Circa and Everard Read

If you haven’t yet had the pleasure of acquainting yourself with the work of Deborah bell, then do yourself a favour and head to (both) the Everard Read and Circa galleries in Jozi. Bell has been a long time collaborator with William Kentridge and the late great, Robert Hodgins. Her previous work has moved from canvas to sculpture, and back again, and this exhibition explores both mediums – the paintings and sketches are in the Everard Read and the impressive sculptures (derived from the paintings and sketches)in Circa. Her sculptures have qualities that pull you back to ancient civilizations, yet they fit perfectly in a contemporary South Africa. The main installation (see slide show below) is awesome.

The exhibition runs until the 30th April, so if you are in town for the extended Easter break (or for SA fashion week at the end of the week), make a point of visiting the galleries. You’ll be sorry if you miss this visual feast.
