#alien adventures: the world is ending. Hideous royal hat sells for £81 000!

So we might all be laughing at the Harold Camping cult who’s prediction that the world would end on the 21st May did not materialise, but I beg to differ. I think we have all been transported to a parallel universe without realising it. Everything looks the same, but clearly things are not. If look hard enough and you’ll find the evidence.

How else can you explain that the monstrosity, that Princess Beatrice wore on her head for the royal wedding, just sold for £8100.100 on eBay. That’s just under a million rands (R 973 200.00) worth of ugly. Proceeds from the sale of the hat, designed by Irish milliner Philip Treacy, will be split between two charities: the United Nations Children’s Fund, UNICEF, and British charity Children in Crisis.

Philip Treacy is one of the world’s best milliners, but he clearly couldn’t handle the demand for the royal wedding and lumped Princess Beatrice with something inspired by too much coffee chased with red bull. The hat (if that is what you can call it) has been called many things, from a pretzel (the kindest comment) to a toilet lid. It spawned a multitude of online jokes like the one below:

But my all time favourite was this one:

The Princess (obviously glad to be rid of the wretched thing) issued a sweet statement: “I’ve been amazed by the amount of attention the hat has attracted,” the young royal said, ” I hope whoever wins the auction has as much fun with the hat as I have“. She forgot to add, “… and as much global ridicule…

But even in a parallel universe there are happy endings, and a whole lot of underprivileged children will now benefit from a whole lot of fashion ugly.

How a parallel universe works...

Perhaps they could’ve spared the money on that monstrosity in the first place and donated it to charity upfront..
